Chaos in Karnataka Assembly after BJP MLAs allege pro-Pakistan slogans. Chief Minister denies, orders investigation.
Karnataka, India - The Karnataka Assembly was embroiled in chaos on Wednesday as BJP MLAs staged a protest, demanding action against a Congress MP whose supporters allegedly chanted pro-Pakistan slogans.
The controversy erupted after a video went viral showing purported Congress supporters raising slogans of "Pakistan Zindabad" (Long Live Pakistan) during a rally in support of the MP, UT Khader.
BJP MLAs, including Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, stormed the Well of the House, raising slogans of "Jai Sri Ram" (Victory to Lord Rama) and demanding Khader's arrest.
Karnataka Chief Minister Denies Slogans
Chief Minister Bommai, while addressing the Assembly, claimed that the video was "doctored" and that no such slogans were raised. He said the government was investigating the matter and would take strict action against anyone found guilty.
Congress Denies Allegations
The Congress party has strongly denied the allegations, calling them a "BJP conspiracy" to malign the party. They accused the BJP of trying to divert attention away from pressing issues in the state.
Increased Tensions
The incident has further heightened tensions between the BJP and the Congress in Karnataka. The two parties have been locked in a bitter political rivalry for decades.
